FEATURE — Continuing the once-in-a-lifetime energy brought about by last month’s rare Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, a new moon rises this week, joining three planets and the sun in the sky.
On Tuesday, May 7, at 9:21 p.m. MDT, a new moon at 18 degrees Taurus initiates a new lunar cycle and will sit close in the sky with Jupiter, Uranus and Venus. A stellium in the sign of Taurus highlights values, self-worth, nourishment, embodiment and a connection to the Earth and the environment.
New moons are a time to set intentions and begin anew.
A fixed Earth sign ruled by Venus, Taurus is associated with patience and persistence, and a new moon here spurs cultivation. In the Western world, this is a time when people are planting seeds, fertilizing the dirt and nurturing plants to ensure a bountiful harvest. The same can be true about what this new moon means for us, and how we might nurture projects, relationships, dreams, spiritual connections, hobbies and the physical body.
While Taurus is sometimes associated with going overboard with self-indulgences, it is the act of investing in one’s quality of experiencing life through the physical reality that is key. When we invest in nurturing ourselves, we have the fuel to nurture others.
Self-care and grounding practices, appreciating nature and slowing down to exist in the present moment are favored now.
The new moon also makes a harmonious sextile to Saturn in Pisces.
This new moon pushes us to step outside of our comfort zones. It’s time to ask ourselves what we’ve outgrown. Common sense is heightened, which offers a different perspective to see how we might be keeping ourselves stuck. And aligned with Jupiter, this new moon carries an abundance of luck and optimism.
So what does this all mean for you? Find out below.
Aries
March 21-April 19
With the collection of cosmic energy in your second house, you’ve been on a quest to figure out what you truly value and how well you’re taking care of yourself, dear Aries. You may have discovered that your career path has been largely influenced by a desire for material possessions and money, but it lacks of sense of personal fulfillment beyond that. Or maybe you’ve realized that your ambition has been attached to an expected outcome, but even when you achieve your aim, you’re still left with a feeling that something is missing. Alongside this, you may have had to address issues surrounding money. Now, with this new moon happening in this same part of your sky, it’s time to bridge the gap between your pursuits and self-worth. Are there talents you’ve left go unnoticed? Think about what you really want. All you have to do is commit and you’ll be on your way. You’re an Aries after all.
Taurus
April 20-May 20
If you’ve been feeling a bit overstimulated or out of balance this past month, it could be due to the abundance of cosmic energy in your sign right now, dear Taurus. This has been a time of reinvention for you, whether it’s your style of clothes, the music you play on repeat or hacking your hair off, there’s a new you that’s been emerging. And this is connected to circumstances as of late that have throttled your personal growth. It could be as simple as breaking ties with things you used to identify with and moving toward activities and people that feed your soul. Uncomfortable situations or resistance may have sparked sudden realizations about who you are during the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction last month. And now, with the new moon in your sign, a personal new year for you begins; it’s time to take your newly gained clarity and commit to fresh goals you hope to bring to fruition over the next year.
Gemini
May 21–June 20
Along with an abundance of energy in your 12th house, this new moon is happening in your sector of beliefs, subconscious programming and spiritual growth, dear Gemini, which could see you yearning to retreat. Allow yourself to step away from the busyness of the outside world, for there is much to be gained in the silence of solitude. The 12th house is also associated with endings and culminations. What have you learned over the last 12 months and how can you integrate that into your life or let go and allow a new chapter to begin? Part of this requires an internal investigation to identify what parts of yourself have grown stale and where you feel spiritually blocked. Clearing out the subconscious clutter allows you to call in new ways to be inspired. Follow what sparks your imagination and what points toward new life rather than old patterns.
Cancer
June 21–July 22
It’s time to set intentions for your future and friendships, as this new moon sparks new beginnings in your 11th house, dear Cancer. With so much energy in this social sector of your sky, this has been a time when you’ve been reassessing your connection to others. Some may have experienced periods of feeling socially withdrawn or alienated from those with whom they used to be closely bonded. And part of this has to do with how the vision of your future has been slowly changing, whether you’ve been cognizant of it or not. As your vision changes, your associations with others evolve. Some friends become more distant, while others grow closer. This new moon could see you establishing new bonds or nurturing the ones you’ve realized are most meaningful. You’re also being asked to aim beyond what you believe you can reach.
Leo
July 23–August 22
With this new moon activating your career and reputation sector, it’s time to set intentions for your future, dear Leo. An abundance of cosmic energy has been building in this part of your sky, pushing you to examine your long-term goals and what you aim to achieve in this life. If you sense that current goals are misaligned with your highest hopes, this cosmic energy offers clarity. Some Leos could begin a new job now or begin the process of redirection. The 10th house is also about legacy and status. For those who do not have a traditional career or have retired, the larger question now is, what do you hope to be remembered for? Projects started now have great potential for success, which could culminate in about six months, when a full moon in Taurus rises. It’s likely your attitude is undergoing some kind of change around what it means to be successful.
Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22
If there was one significant takeaway with this abundance of cosmic energy in your ninth house, it’s that you are being pushed to expand your horizons and break out of a rut, dear Virgo. Part of this could be about identifying self-limiting beliefs that are keeping you from being more spontaneous and calling in more adventure into your life. As a Virgo, you are known for your organizational skills and commitment to service, but perhaps you’ve become bogged down due to your adherence to the rhythm of your daily routine. It’s time to step into new territory, whether by mind, foot or road. If you have the chance to take a trip abroad, you are likely to be changed by the experience in some profound way. But taking a plane overseas is not the only way you can broaden your outlook. Do what makes you uncomfortable and believe in what you have to give.
Libra
Sept. 23–Oct. 22
You’ve been going through a truly transformative time, dear Libra, and it’s likely that you’ve been feeling an increased sense of vulnerability. Things are changing within you and around you, and it seems the more you try to gain control, the more out of control you feel. At times, you may even have suffered a sense of disempowerment or complete lack of control. This could relate to shared resources, intimate relationships or the psyche. You may have recently endured a loss of some kind, and now, with the new moon happening in this same part of your sky, it’s time to decide what you want to grow in its absence. Emotions are heightened now, as is your intuition, and, like the Phoenix that rises from ashes, pick yourself up and brush off your shoulders, for endings are only beginnings in disguise. Taking time to detach from life stressors will help you restore a sense of inner peace. As the sign associated with balance, you have the keys to your own recalibration.
Scorpio
Oct. 23–Nov. 21
Following the recent Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, you may have experienced surprise changes related to partnerships and how you relate to others, dear Scorpio. As a result, your values have come under the microscope. Perhaps you’ve realized that you’ve been devaluing yourself or overvaluing someone else, which has caused an imbalance in reciprocity. It’s these realizations that come to the forefront now, as this new moon takes place in the same part of your sky, prompting you to question whether a relationship is supportive and nourishing or impeding your growth. A chance for renewals in relationships is possible, as is the likelihood of endings. Frivolous connections wear thin. Significant bonds deepen. Money, contracts and business partners are also highlighted.
Sagittarius
Nov. 22–Dec. 21
These last few weeks likely brought a whirlwind of change as your ruler, Jupiter, was caught up in a once-in-a-lifetime connection with Uranus, dear Sagittarius. Changes to matters of health, work and daily routine could have come by surprise or left surprise impacts in their wake. And this has likely caused some disruption in your daily rhythm. Perhaps surgery prompted dietary changes, or shifts in work duties changed your schedule. Or maybe your stress levels reached an unmanageable level, and you’ve realized you need to make a change. Or perhaps you’ve been so focused on your work or health goals that you’ve burned yourself out. With this new moon happening in this same part of your sky, it’s time to reorient yourself. Part of this could be committing to establishing a better work-life balance, finding a therapist or taking a step back from over-ambitious goals.
Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19
This has been a highly prolific time for you, where you’ve likely been chasing passion, whether in romance, hobbies, sports or spending time with children, dear Capricorn. At times, you may have felt overwhelmed by an excessive drive to fuel projects, while also needing extra time to play. While this has been an inspirational time when you’ve likely felt supercharged and high on life, it’s also been a time when you’ve been gaining a deeper understanding of what pleasure means for you. This has been uniquely important for you, as you are a sign known to place achievement above all else. Now, with the moon in this same part of your sky, it’s time to take what you’ve learned and carry it forward. What is it that truly makes you happy? And what drives come purely from a need to ascend?
Aquarius
Jan. 20–Feb. 18
It’s been an emotional few weeks, and you may have felt like you’ve been stuck on a teeter-totter of highs and lows, dear Aquarius. Events have been unfolding to help you strengthen your resilience and redefine a sense of security. Part of this could have brought about challenges related to your family or home that felt insurmountable. And with your ruler Uranus’ rare conjunction with Jupiter last month, sudden realizations about your childhood and how it connects to your emotional patterns may have been both validating and unsettling. But within the discomfort, has been a push for you to listen to and value your emotions. While you are known as an emotionally detached sign, that does not mean you lack a depth of emotions. Rather, you use detachment as a coping mechanism, which can sometimes stir feelings of alienation. As this new moon enters this same part of your sky, it’s time to recognize how much you’ve grown in this area and the space you’ve learned to hold for yourself.
Pisces
Feb. 19 – March 20
With a collection of cosmic energy building in your third house over the last month, lessons in communication have played prominently in your life, dear Pisces. Part of this has been about you gaining a deeper value in what you have to say, which has likely been challenging given the fact that Pisces is known to drift off in their own fantastical realms. While it may be nice to escape the drudgery of reality from time to time, there is no evading life’s obstacles. And as you’ve recognized the need to speak up, you’ve gained deeper insight into the development of your perception and how you may have been blocking yourself from sharing your talents and gifts with others. With this new moon happening in this same part of your sky, it’s time to honor the ways in which you’ve allowed yourself to open up and use that growth to propel you forward.
